Chronic stress and burnout can have severe consequences on clinical practice and ethical decision making, which puts clinicians and supervisors at risk. We will identify the impact of current global and personal stressors on the mental health system, providers and supervisees. We will discuss the stress, chronic stress, and burnout progression and utilize screening tools, resilience factors, and coping skills to support supervisees.

Purpose: To help supervisors expand their knowledge of the stress, chronic stress, and burnout progression and learn to utilize screening, resilience factors, and coping skills to support supervisees.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will: 

  1. Recognize the potential ethical and clinical consequences of chronic stress and burnout. 
  2. Describe the impact of current global and personal stressors on the mental health system, providers and supervisees.
  3. Discuss the stress, chronic stress, and burnout progression and recognize warning signs.
  4. Utilize screening tools, resilience factors, and coping skills to support supervisees.

About the Trainer:

Michelle Risser. LISW-S works in private practice in the Columbus, Ohio area and is a certified EMDR Therapist. Her clinical focus areas are maternal mental health, birth trauma, and EMDR. Michelle has a passion for supporting other clinicians through chronic stress and burnout prevention. She is a writer, speaker and educator on topics related to mental health, chronic stress, burnout and self-care.
